Addressing a sixty-year spatial deficiency where graduation ceremonies and major assemblies had to be held off-campus, the New Multi-Purpose Gymnasium Project at Zhongxing Elementary School in Hukou Township introduces a versatile educational and civic landmark. Guided by the design philosophy of "Light, Wind, and Sustainability," the steel-framed facility accommodates a subterranean garage and a two-story column-free arena designed for sports, assemblies, and performing arts. The architecture features a dynamic "winged-roof" profile whose clerestory monitors harness natural buoyancy to purge thermal mass and channel soft daylight deep into the court, realizing a passive "welcome the light, expel the heat" climate strategy. Geometrically positioned to use its circulation core as a protective barrier against severe winter northeast monsoon gusts and nearby industrial noise, the building establishes a dual-entry scheme—a student-oriented main portal linked to the campus spine and an independent community gate facing the neighborhood plaza—enabling seamless transition from daily physical education into an after-hours neighborhood community living room and resilient emergency shelter. The façade anchors to the school's heritage via a red-brick masonry plinth, surmounted by modular grey panels, perforated metal solar screens, and a glazed entrance atrium; coupled with rooftop photovoltaic arrays, rainwater harvesting, and intelligent lighting controls, the project fulfills the benchmarks of an EEWH Silver-level Green Building and a Level 1 Building Energy Efficiency Rating.
