This project focuses on interior renovation within the existing architecture, guided by the concept of continuity and cultural reinterpretation. The design harmonizes materiality, light, and spatial rhythm to extend the spirit of traditional performing arts into a contemporary setting.
1. Welcoming Spaces
The entrance and lobby areas are reconfigured to enhance spatial continuity and a sense of ceremony. By integrating adjacent functions, the design improves the visitor experience and establishes a coherent spatial narrative leading toward the performance areas.
2. Multi-functional Theatre Cluster
The front-of-house, auditorium, and backstage zones are comprehensively re-evaluated to optimize stage performance, acoustics, and audience comfort. The flexible planning allows diverse usage—from performances to rehearsals—improving both functionality and rental efficiency.
3. VIP Lounge
Traditional aesthetics are reinterpreted through contemporary materials and restrained detailing. The calm lighting and composition create a refined yet culturally resonant atmosphere, offering an elegant hospitality experience rooted in the spirit of traditional theatre.
4. The Concept of “Home”
A subtle sense of home is embedded throughout the design, evoking warmth, belonging, and familiarity for both visitors and staff. This domestic sensibility strengthens the emotional connection to the cultural mission of the Center.
The overall design redefines the identity of the Taiwan Traditional Theatre Center as not merely a venue for performance, but as a living space where heritage and modern life coexist harmoniously.
